Nepal Men’s Cricket Team – A Brief History
Cricket was introduced to Nepal in the early 20th century by the Rana rulers. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) was formed in 1946 and became an Associate Member of the ICC in 1996.
Nepal made global headlines by qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2014, winning their first-ever T20I match against Hong Kong and later defeating Afghanistan.
Despite challenges, including ICC suspension in 2016, Nepal returned stronger. The team achieved ODI status in 2018, qualified for the Asia Cup in 2023, and reached the T20 World Cup 2024 after a decade.
In 2025, Nepal created history by defeating West Indies 2–1 in a T20I series, their first series win against a Full Member nation.
